FAQ

What makes your bar different than other bars?

  1. Our bars only contain carefully selected nutrient dense whole foods.
  2. All of the vitamins and minerals in our bar come from whole foods.
  3. Our first ingredient is a whole grain not a sweetener.
  4. Our bars are lower in sugar than almost all other bars on the market.
  5. Our bars have an ideal 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio that is ideal for recovery.

Why are whole food ingredients better than processed ingredients and additives?

Whole foods are full of fiber and packed with nutrients. Research is actually showing that nutrients are utilized better in whole foods than nutrients from "added" vitamins and minerals. Scientists believe that whole foods contain precise amounts of hundreds or even thousands of beneficial compounds, which work better in the combinations and amounts selected by nature rather than being consumed individually.

Why do Sun Valley Bars contain more fat than other bars?

Sun Valley Bars are packed with nutrient dense nuts and seeds (something we all need more of in our diet). Nuts and seeds are naturally high in monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids, both of which are extremely beneficial. Here is a sample of the many health benefits that are associated with the consumption of nuts and seeds: Lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, improved blood pressure, improved cardiovascular health, reduced risk of weight gain, and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Sun Valley Bars are packed with natural energy that helped me push my body to win the 2008 24 Hour World Single Speed Championships. The flavors taste great and are easy to eat during an event like this or for your every day ride!

Why are Sun Valley Bars so filling?

The whole food ingredients in Sun Valley Bar are full of fiber and healthy fats, both of which slow down digestion and give you the feeling of fullness. We have been told by many of our consumers that a bar for breakfast or lunch is filling enough to take them to the next meal. That pretty impressive for a 240 calorie bar!

Why do some of your bars say no added sugar when your nutrition facts panel states that your bars contain sugar?

Both our Lemon Goji and Cranberry Almond (what about the other flavors??) bars state no added sugar, which means we have added no refined sugar to our bars. There is, however, naturally occurring sugar in the dried fruit, brown rice and maple syrup, which contributes to the sugar content in the nutrition facts panel.

Are the carbohydrates in your bars good for you?

Yes, all of the carbohydrates in our bars come from whole grains (rolled oats, and brown rice flour) as well as natural sweeteners (brown rice syrup and maple syrup). Brown rice syrup, although sweet, is made up of 50% complex carbohydrates. For this reason our bars are slow to digest, giving you sustained energy, which prevents you from crashing, or bonking.

How much potassium does each bar have?

Our bars contain between 229 mg and 263 mg of potassium. For comparison 1 cup of Gatorade, an electrolyte replacement drink, contains only 30 mg of potassium. The potassium in our bars makes up approximately 5% of the dietary reference intakes (DRI's).

What is the shelf life of the Sun Valley Bar?

The Sun Valley Bar is made of dried fruits, seeds, nuts, rolled grains, and grain sweeteners that all have a naturally long shelf life (6-12 months). These healthy ingredients do not require chemical preservatives that destroy flavor and nutrition, however the bar tastes best if consumed in the first 9 months. Every bar has a best by date on the back of the wrapper.
